Are you really in love with the most important person in your life? YOU!
The concept of self love is everywhere at the moment, Facebook posts with quotes and reminders that we need to make ourselves top priority. One thing I’ve found is that it’s easier said than done, especially when the Universe throws you a curveball. I’ve had a few of those recently, and they’ve been stinkers, for example someone driving into my parked car in the middle of the night and writing it off for me. First thing to go out of the window…. you guessed it, self love and self care.
Self love is going to mean different things to different people, and over the next few weeks I’m going to explore what it really means to me, make some big changes and hopefully inspire you guys to try it out too.
One thing that I have learnt is that there is way too much truth to that quote about filling your own cup first because you can’t pour from an empty one. You can’t. No matter what you do, eventually you start grinding to a halt, mentally and emotionally. When you start to put yourself above everything else, you fill your cup so much that it has no choice but to spill into the lives of the people around you.
Is it selfish? No. It’s the least selfish thing you can actually do, it may take a little time for family and friends to adjust to you taking “me time” as more than likely they’ll be used to you dropping everything to tend to them when they call. Stick with it though, as by taking the time to nurture yourself, you take that responsibility away from others which actually helps your relationships as you’re no longer feeling negative towards them for not taking care of you the way YOU want.
So, are YOU your biggest priority? I wasn’t, but I’m going to be. Are you with me? Let’s stop being our own biggest critic and start being our own biggest LOVE!
I’d love to hear your thoughts!
